Question 1

What exactly is OAIRoute?

Accepted Answer

OAIRoute is a unified AI API gateway. It exposes one OpenAI-compatible endpoint at api.oairoute.com/v1 that routes to Claude, Gemini, GPT, Doubao, DeepSeek, Grok and 200+ other models. You keep using the OpenAI SDK you already have and change only the base URL.

Question 2

Do I need to rewrite my code to switch models?

Accepted Answer

No. Every model is exposed through the standard OpenAI chat completions schema, so switching from GPT to Claude or Gemini means changing the model string. Streaming, tool calling, vision inputs and prompt caching all work through the same interface.

Question 3

Is this a shared-account pool or reverse-engineered API?

Accepted Answer

No. Requests go to official provider endpoints using our own upstream accounts. That means real rate limits, real SLAs and no risk of your requests being tied to someone else's banned account.

Question 4

How is the pricing lower than the providers' list prices?

Accepted Answer

Aggregated volume. We buy capacity in bulk across many customers and pass most of the discount through. You pay per token used with no monthly subscription and no minimum commitment.

Question 5

Can I use it with Claude Code, Codex CLI or Cline?

Accepted Answer

Yes — those are the most common use cases. Claude Code needs ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL pointed at https://api.oairoute.com, Codex needs a model_providers block in ~/.codex/config.toml, and any OpenAI-compatible client just needs the base URL and key. The Deploy section has copy-paste config for each.

Question 6

Which models can I get here that OpenRouter does not carry?

Accepted Answer

Chinese frontier models, primarily. Doubao, Seedance video generation, Seedream image generation, Qwen, DeepSeek, GLM, Kimi and Hunyuan are available through OAIRoute and Ark Global, and most Western gateways do not carry them.

Question 7

What happens to my data?

Accepted Answer

Requests are proxied to the upstream provider and not used to train any model. Logs retain metadata for billing and debugging; you can see exactly what was recorded in your console.

Question 8

How do I get started?

Accepted Answer

Register at api.oairoute.com, create a key on the token page, and paste it into the config for your tool. Most users are making their first successful request in under two minutes.
